Science Fiction Sleeper Agent: Narrative Subversion in Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Lefthand of Darkness”

This essay is the shortened version of my undergraduate capstone essay which was presented on November 30th, 2015 at Park University’s English Capstone Conference. The longer version is still under revision but will be available here eventually. The essay explores a big question of “feminist” sf writing (what makes it feminist?) by investigating Le Guin as rhetor and The Lefthand of Darkness as a rhetorical piece of writing, as all writing is. I look specifically at the theme of duality and wholeness in novel and how that works with co-location, hybridization, and the subversion of sf conventions to promote a feminist agenda. In the longer version, I consider Le Guin’s anthropological approach to sf as a feminist act as well. Enjoy!

Masculinity in “Blood Meridian”: Judge as Phallus

This essay was presented in March at the Sigma Tau Delta 2015 International Convention. It was written for an English class and represents the first time I had fun coming up with ideas and writing about them.

“Gawain and the Green Knight”: Sex and Reputation

This essay was presented at Park University’s Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium in April 2015 as a part of a panel on medieval literature. Not my finest work, but a good representation of my tendency towards feminist interpretation of sexuality in literature.
